Mission Statement

"Believing that Jesus Christ is the centre of our existence, Pacific Academy High School equips and encourages students to love God and serve others by providing challenges and opportunities to develop spiritually, emotionally, intellectually and physically."

About the High School

The school year, which runs from September through June, is divided into two semesters. A wide range of courses designed to provide a balanced education, is offered. Most of the academic courses are taken on a semester basis. This means a student has fewer courses to carry at a time and divides up the provincial examinations so that some are written in January and others in June. Students receive guidance as necessary to assist them with course selection and other problems they may encounter.

Academics and Electives

The program meets all the requirements of the B.C. Ministry of Education for graduation from grade 12.
All courses are taught from a Christian perspective.
Students on the academic program are well prepared for university or college studies.
The general studies program is designed to meet the needs of students who may not wish to go to university.
Assistance is available for those students who need help with their courses.
Whenever possible, enrichment is offered to students who need additional challenge.
Class sizes usually range from 15 to 28 students depending on the course and grade level.
Our pupil-teacher ratio averages 16 students per teacher.

At each grade level, students are encouraged to be involved in both fine arts and applied skills. The music program is excellent with groups frequently achieving high recognition in both national and international festivals. Theatre studies allow students to develop their presentation skills and to work on the various productions that take place each year. The art program encourages students to explore various media and to prepare work for presentation.

International Baccalaureate Program

In February 2004, Pacific Academy became an authorized IB World School. The IB Diploma Program is a rigorous pre-university program leading to assessments in six subject areas. Established in 1968, the IB offers a challenging curriculum noted for its depth and its international perspective. The two-year IB Diploma provides a coherent and demanding educational experience across the full curriculum. IB students also engage in community service, individual research, and an enquiry into the nature of knowledge. The IB Diploma is accepted as an admissions credential at universities in 102 countries. In addition, high scores on IB exams often entitle students to credit or placement at university. Program details may be found on the International Baccalaureate Program page.
